Angela Holmes BSc MSc C.Psychol MBPsS

Angela has been a practising BPS Chartered Psychologist (Forensic) since 2004. She graduated with a BSc Hons in Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995 and with an MSc in Forensic Psychology from the University of Leicester in 1996.

Angela has extensive experience of working with high risk mentally disordered offenders, having worked within the NHS for approximately 10 years, firstly as a clinical scientist and then as a Chartered Psychologist (Forensic) before becoming a Highly Specialist Forensic Psychologist. She has worked within a maximum security psychiatric hospital, medium and low security psychiatric units and finally within a forensic community mental health service.

During this time Angela conducted research into violence risk within and out-with psychiatric environment. She also worked as part of a Home Office research team, evaluating the implementation of accredited offending behaviour programmes across the National Probation Directorate in England and Wales and lastly, acted as a consultant lead clinician for a MAPPA implementation steering group in the community.

In 2007 Angela became an Accredited Risk Assessor with the Risk Management Authority Scotland, providing intensive risk assessment reports and expert evidence to the High Court of Justiciary in Scotland, advising on those under criminal and mental health legislation.

Angela moved from the NHS in 2008 and took up role as a Lead Psychologist with adolescents and young people within secure care across Scotland.

In 2011 she took up the role of Head of Psychology at HMP Shotts in Scotland, where she is currently the National clinical lead for violence risk assessment and risk management.

Angela works with long-term high risk violent and sexually violent offenders and oversees the delivery of offending behaviour programmes, including high intensity violence programmes and psychological interventions within HMP Shotts. She also conducts and oversees the delivery of risk assessment and risk management planning within the psychology department.

Angela is a national trainer in violence interventions and is a registered trainer with HMPPS.

She is a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society and is registered with the HCPC as a Forensic Psychologist.

Angela is a trained EMDR and Schema therapist. She is skilled in the administration of a diverse range of psychological assessment tools and remains up-to-date with the empirical literature which underpins her practice.
