Nicky Mosson-Jones BA (Hons) MSc C.Psychol (Forensic) AFBPsS

Nicky is an experienced Chartered Psychologist, and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS). She is also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Forensic Psychologist. Nicky studied Psychology at the University of Leicester, attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Combined Studies (Psychology/Sociology) in 1992. She was then awarded a Master of Science Degree in Applied Criminological Psychology by the University of London, Birkbeck College in 1996.

Nicky has extensive experience of providing and leading psychological services with offender populations in both secure and community settings, and with young people who show challenging and risky behaviour. She worked in HM Prison Service between 1993 and 2006 in male adult, young offender and juvenile establishments, where she developed expertise in the assessment, treatment and risk management of offenders, particularly of violent and sexual offenders. During this period, Nicky also undertook a range of senior management roles in prisons including developing and leading psychological services and accredited offending behaviour programmes (generic and sex offender) for determinate and indeterminate prisoners, prison drug's strategy, and prison health. She was a member of the senior management team of a long term young offender establishment when HMCIP judged it to be a "Centre of Excellence".

In 2006 Nicky moved into community services and spent 10 years working in therapeutic residential childcare, including as clinical director within a specialist service, where she provided and developed psychological and therapeutic services for young people in 'looked after children' (LAC) services. Her clients were high risk with complex emotional and behavioural presentations; at risk of entering the criminal justice system or already offending. Nicky also provided psychological consultancy services for local authorities around risk assessment, treatment and management of adults and young people. In this time, Nicky developed her expertise in the assessment, treatment and risk management of young people who show sexually problematic and harmful behaviours, and in providing consultation to the professionals and carers supporting them. Most recently, Nicky managed a CAMHS service in the NHS, overseeing an MDT providing mental health services to children and young people.

Nicky joined Psychological Services UK Ltd in January 2017. She is a very experienced risk assessor and report writer, and is trained and experienced in the administration and interpretation of a wide range of psychological assessment and risk assessment tools relevant to offender populations, and to young people with complex needs and high risk behaviour. Her specialist areas include risk assessment with adolescents and young offenders, and she has expertise in sexually problematic and/or harmful behaviour in that population. Nicky is registered as an Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor with the BPS.
